My sister is getting a divorce, in which there is expected to be a settlement. She has a past tax issue (more than ten years old) which could be in excess of the entire settlement. Is there any option besides bankruptcy to settle a tax issue, and if not, should she file before the divorce settlement takes place? None of the marital assets are in her name, and the tax issue is in her name only.
