Hello,
My wife and I recently set the paperwork in motion for divorce. I then moved back to the West Coast to find work, while she is still on the East Coast. The problem we have now is trying to obtain financing for a new/used vehicle. I was wondering if anyone knew if this was allowed or would this be in contempt of court (even before or after a docket number has been issued). I know our finances are basically frozen while we fill out the financial Affidavits, but is acquiring new debt completely unacceptable until the official divorce is final? (after the 90 day wait period.)
Thanks

You can acquire new debt, you just cant tie it in any way to your assets like using the house or another car as collateral if you default.

Sorry new to this - I live in Washington state, a community property state, I am recently divorced after 23 years, my ex-husband and I had two cars, both in our names, the divorce gave us each a car - that's it, the financing is in both our names. He walked away from everything, filed bankruptcy, which made me as well, walked away from our home and continues to get over on everything. He wants me to sign the title to the car so he can sell it - since he left me with a loan on my own and "said we didn't need to put it in the divorce decree" and than after divorced stopped paying his portion of a $1000/month loan, I'm thinking I don't have to sign the title, as we bought the car jointly, I paid half of what he has into it, can I simply say, "No!" and make him split the equity since he paid it off.
