Ok heres the deal. my 18 year old daughter who lives at home is due to have a child within the next 2 weeks. The father of the child is not even around. And she has a new boyfriend. Now she plans on not putting the fathers name on the birth cert. She also as of now get WIC and Med.through the state. She plans on getting food stamps and sec8 housing when she moves out. My question is she has no plans on taking the father of the child in for child support. Will the state of PA. allow her to collect public asst. wellfair, Food Stamps ect. Without her trying to collect support from the childs father?

She'll have to name a father so the state can recoup TANF funds expended on the child .

I would be confused too, why would anyone be more than willing to hold the taxpayers responsible, but not the father. Interesting train of thought.

I'd expect she finds the new boyfriend to be better " daddy material " .

I know a girl that never told the father that he was going to be a father. They were both into some bad stuff at the time, she quit to be a mom but he continued the lifestyle and she didn't want the child around it.

Well the new boyfriend is a guy she was seeing before the fellow that she is haveing the baby to. so.... Any way she seems to think that the state will take care of her and the child without her taking the father in for support. witch i dont agree with. i would think that the state wouldnt pay a dime until they see what the father is going to pay. Also they will still need to do a paternity test. She just doesnt want the father around at all. and she thinks if she doesnt take him in for support then she wont have to worrie about him seeing the child when its born.

"She just doesnt want the father around at all. " Too bad she didn't feel that way 9 months ago. That ship has sailed.

If this were my daughter I would make it clear that if she decides to go it alone and not seek child support and the state aide falls through you are not going to support her and pick up the pieces. She needs to start thinking about how she is going to support herself and her baby. Even on state aide I would want to see my daughter doing EVERYTHING she could to eventually stand on her own with her child.

Depends what state, here, in FL, they offer you services to help you track down the other parent & to file cild support. But you don't HAVE to use these services & the benfits are not effected.
