Hello, I am a spouse of a DOD civ, who left me for his girlfriend. He has moved out his personal possesions from our rental home, to include taking the toothpaste, cleaned out our joint bank accounts and fled back to his duty assignment in Abu Dhabi. He also lost the cellar keys and let the heating oil tank run dry. I had an accident in the snow friday night, spun out and bounced off a guard rail. I was informed this morning that my spouse canceled the full coverage on my car and I now have just liability insurance. I am almost positive that he has also moved his paycheck to another account but I have no way of verifying that. I am in hell!! He has left me in Germany, with very little money, I work part time, several thousand dollars worth of euro bills. I am in Hell and the military keeps referring me to other agencies, ACS, JAG, who I will be seeing on the 19 Feb, and generally no one will call his employer and demand that he be returned to Germany to settle his affairs. I need any information, guidance, suggestions or just a cyber hug, would help!!

I am assuming your command sponsorship is almost up too then if he is now in Abu Dhabi? (I loved it there.)
I don't know what you can do. You are civilians living overseas. Do you have a SOFA status or anything like that?
I too have no idea what the government would do for you other than to pack you up and send you back to the US. Have you spoken to the civilian personnel officer wherever you are?

He works for the stars and stripes newspaper and rotates out every few months, so he is technically here in Germany and TDY to Abu Dhabi. We have no return rights and yes I do have an ID card and Sofa stamp. All JAG could tell me was that the only way I would lose my priviliges is if he gets fired, quits or we are legally divorced. My day did get worse as the Mercedes dealer called me with an estimate to fix my car: 8,000 euros. So now I have to dispose of my car, rent a car to get around, liquidate a house full of furniture, and try not to have a nervous breakdown. I could drive his BMW if I knew where he parked it before he jumped on plane and went back to Abu Dhabi. I am going to call the US Embassy-legal attache office tomorrow and see if they can assist. I always thought since the military brought me over here that they were somewhat responsible for getting me back home. Wrong, when a soldier gets a european out and then goes to work for the gov't, you are essentially on your own, especially since he is considered a local hire, since he was already here. This whole thing just sucks! you never really know a man until you divorce him!

IF they moved you there they should move you back. That only makes sense.

Does his car have on star? If so then they could tell you right where it's at.

I dont know a lot about the military but I know you can talk to his comapny commander or his military superior and they can request to fly you back home Space "A". The military can give you orders to fly home! Im sure of this bc I was stuck in Hawaii and they offered to send me back home space A. I'll pray all is well for you!
