I'm going to get married and own my house out right in California . Someone said that if my wife to be paid any bills for the property ,that if we got divorced she would get have half no matter if it was totally mine in the beginning . Didn't sound right to me ,but you never can tell ??? Thanks

the state of california has a 50% community prop law , lets say ur house before u get married is valued at 500,000 at thAt point the house is your sole and seperate property,the next day after marriage it becomes community property, and 5 yrs later u get divorced and the property is now worth 600,000 she is entitled to receive 50% of the difference 100,000/2 = 50,000
