In California, is Social Security Disability Income considered for spousal support?

Not for tax purposes it is not.

Why give a "senior" discount, they have had plenty of time to raise the money...

People who collect social security disability do not have to claim it as income to the IRS. I know this for a fact.

I collect SSDI and I have to claim it as income to the IRS. I know this for a fact.

PS. Uncle Sam really enjoyed his big ol' bite of my retroactive check.

That is ONLY if you have more than $25,000 a year when you combine half of your disability check, plus any other income such as pensions, dividends, etc.

If you JUST get disability, it is NOT taxable.

"If you JUST get disability, it is NOT taxable"

***************************************************

Yes, it is

ALL of your disability check is counted, as is all other income.

If your income is under $25,000 filing single or $32,000 filing jointly, you wouldn't have to pay federal income tax. If you make $25,001 all from SSDI.....it is ALL taxable. That's only $2083.4166666 per month. If you make as little as your brother does, one would not owe federal taxes on that SSDI check. If, like me, you worked for years and made a decent living, you would have to pay federal taxes on your SSDI check.

Do I need to quote the recent thread where you admit that you don't even know the difference between SSDI and SSI ? Ypou are a little out of your league here.....and you have admitted to a poor understanding of SSDI just recently.

If you still want to fight......

Paying income tax on Social Security benefits.
Updated 01/15/2010 10:47 AM | ID #493

You will have to pay federal taxes on your benefits if you file a federal tax return as an "individual" and your total income is more than $25,000. If you file a joint return, you will have to pay taxes if you and your spouse have a total income that is more than $32,000.
For more information, call the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) toll-free at 1-800-829-3676 and ask for IRS Publication Number 915, Social Security and Equivalent Railroad Retirement Benefits. People who are deaf or hard of hearing may call the IRS toll-free number, 1-800-829-4059.
If you wish to have federal taxes withheld from your check, see our tax withhold web page.
Social Security has no authority to withhold state or local taxes from your benefit. Many states and local authorities do not tax Social Security benefits. You should contact your state or local taxing authority for more information
