"And what happens to a nation that sends all its women of child bearing age to war?"

The requirement for selective service ends at 26.

"You don't have to like it, but regardless of how sexist it sounds, someone has to stay behind to pop out more babies to keep the population rate going."

And if human females were capable of asexual reproduction, that would make sense.

"Turns out, women are better at popping out babies."

So because WOMEN are better at doing something (making babies), they shouldn't have to do what men do. But if men are better at doing something (physical strength), women should get equal credit because they CAN'T?

Sorry, but that is a double standard, any way you twist it.

"It is a silly antiquated policy, but most likely based on the idea that a draft is unlikely any time in the near future so we'll deal with if/when it becomes an issue."

Well, if a draft is unlikely, it would seem to be a good time to add women to the requirement. Have you considered the mixed message we send our youth? We tell boys that girls are EQUAL to them, then at 18, we only make boys sign up for selective service.

I am not against such a policy - frankly if it were up to me EVERYONE would be required to serve in some capacity. Military, americorps, whatever. Regardless of sex. I think Israel has the right idea there.

Sherron,
I've worked at 6 companies in the high tech field over 34 years, WOMEN DO NOT DO THE SAME WORK AS A MAN. PERIOD.

Women call in sick far more than men.
Women screw the boss for " favors " far more than men.
Women hit companies for sexual harrassment lawsuits far more then men.

When you count all three of those significant factors, WOMEN DO NOT DO THE WORK OF A MAN AND THUS GET LESS PAY. End of story lady. I use the term loosely.

"And selective service is for EVERY job in the military. "
Congress and the USSC disagrees with you on that one.

"Congress and the USSC disagrees with you on that one."

So define which jobs, under the current selective sevice process, are not manned, should a draft begin, as you appear to disagree.

As far as I understand, Rostker v. Goldberg still stands.

Only because it has not been challenged. It would fall because of the 1994 repeal of the ban on women serving on combat aircrews.

Of course, if I were a woman, I would be INSULTED. Lowered standards, YAY. More reproductive rights, YAY. Cannot be barred from golf courses, YAY. Special laws protecting us, YAY. Sign up for the draft and chance going to war and getting killed? Nah, we're good.

It is DISGUSTING. And as much as I disagree with the delivery of hanx and yergna, they have a point, if you don't want FULL responsibility, you shouldn't get full rights.

Quote " Get over it, I am..."

Well, 4 years from now, when you are tied to the alimony payments each month, and your new spouse see the filing where your ex has an attorney to go after BOTH OF YOUR INCOMES.

I wonder if you'll be so smug and " over it " then, eh ? I wonder how your new spouse will feel knowing that HE is going to have to pay support to this " master manipulator " you blew it and married. I wonder how " over it " you'll be then, eh ?

Not so much...

If I did not have kids and was not a single parent, I would never have to call in sick either. My husband never calls in sick for a sick kid, I do.
