My ex husband is $10,000 behind in support. He had been paying about half of what was ordered, pulled straight out of his unemployment check. Now he is working, and he has altogether stopped sending anything. There was a show-cause hearing about a year ago, during which absolutely nothing happened. He told the FOC he couldn't find a job and they said okay. I have called FOC several times regarding his latest lapse in payments, and no response. What else can I do? He frequently waits four weeks, pays a quarter of what he owes, then doesn't pay anything else for four weeks, just to keep FOC off his back. It is ridiculous to me that he can get away with this. Is there a higher authority than FOC that I can go to?

I have never heard of a higher authority. If you find one, let me know. My X is about $17K behind, with no payment in over 60 days.

I know I sound whiny here, but it's just so unfair. My poor husband works his tail off to pay child support for his five kids. It doesn't matter if he has a job or not, he always finds a way to support them. And now, he has to support my children, too, because their own father won't help at all. He finally gets a job, after two years without one, and he doesn't volunteer a dime, nothing. Doesn't it bother guys like him to be in debt? I just don't get it...

My ex hasn't paid a dime in almost a year and owes me well over 12K. You learn not to depend on CS. Take it from someone who's ex has went most of the past 13 years without paying a dime.

What state are you in? Luckily CSE here stays on top of our case. My X is also about $10K behind, but it'd be MUCH more if it weren't for their hard work in our case.

I hear ya. I feel the same way. My X is ordered to pay $200/mth for 2 kids, $350 with arrears. Seems easy. Not with him.
I hope you get some help soon.

I am in Michigan, in Ionia County. The FOC won't even return my phone calls. The least they could do is a show cause hearing, but I can't even seem to get that. I just think it's so crazy!!

I'd be sending a letter every freaking week until I get a response. I had to do that with our CSE in the beginning - and had no problems after that. The head attorney for our county's CSE even took over my case. I'd get online and see if you can find out who is in charge and start sending letters.

What I did when ex was 80,000 behind, I called Washington DC HELP line.
Told the guy on the phone and he gave me the # to the lady who was top dog for Missouri in CS.
Called her, had a nice little chat. Within 2 weeks she had the 10 inches of dust bunnies scraped off my file.
Had a warrant for his arrest, caught him and had him in court. He ended up in prison for criminal non support.
I didn't get any money, but at least she did something.

Mine is $11,00 behind so I do feel your pain. In Texas they are really good about keeping you involved. My problem is my ex lives in New Mexico; so basically Texas sends paperwork to New Mexico and I have decided it goes to a mail box that apparently no one has the key too! You could hire a lawyer and hold him in contempt since your FOC isn't doing anything..
