Hi, I got married in mid 2009. I am getting divorced which will be finalized next week. I had jointly filed my taxes with my ex in the year 2009, 2010. I am planning to file taxes as a single for year 2011. I do not want to do it jointly. I do not care about any benefits by filing jointly... My question is incase if my ex does not file her returns for the year 2011, is it going to affect me? Am I going to be held liable for any of her unfiled taxes for the year 2011? Can IRS hold me responsible for her unfiled taxes?
I would appreciate any responses....

If it will be finalized next week, you CANNOT file jointly. If your ex doesn't file, it does not impact you at all.
