How long does it take for CS office to determine?
      #760891 - 08/29/11 11:09 AM

DH submitted ppwk to have child support reviewed (got custody last year and currently no cs order set up). CS office has confirmed receipt of ppwk but said it could take 3-6 months to determine if a review needs to take place. Is this the time line we should expect? I usually call every couple of weeks, and get different answers from different reps - only one rep has told me that time line (probably because she saw how much I've called in their notes lol).

3-6 months is crazy. 30 days should be enough, and in some states, must be done in this time frame by statute.

Brin - was this done through your state child support office?

Yes, done through the state child support office. Well, it was re-assigned to the local one actually.

It can take up to that long in some larger counties here I've heard. However that is a long time and I'd be irritated with it too. They may have too many cases for workers and are backlogged. Can you get an attorney and file that way instead of going through the state? IME once a CS order is established CSE doesn't usually take that long to collect.

Why go through CSE to get an order? Why not file the paperwork through the court for CS then once you have the order have it garnished through CSE? That is what we did.

Why would they need 3-6 months to decide if a review needs to take place when there is no current order??
