Hi, last year I moved to Guam a territory of the US from Texas. My husband has been unfaithful and I decided to move to Guam where a friend is. Its been a year since I moved here and after talking with my husband numerous times(trying to work things out) I decided things arent going to work. I was told by my lawyer here that I can file for divorce as long as we have been separated for a year. Just yesterday I received a notice from his lawyer in Texas saying that because the papers were from Guam it wasnt considered real and therefor the divorce will not be processed. The papers have been notarized and Guam is a part of the US. Is this even possible?

The Guam government and courts system was established by an act of the U.S. Congress. A divorce granted by a Guam court, including inclusive property and custody agreements, are recognized by the 50 United States and other jurisdictions of the United States. See U.S. Code, Title 28 §1738.
