A friend has been trying to divorce without an attorney for three months. Her ex refuses to sign papers. If she doesnt have money for an attorney, what can she do. He left her and her three children (not his) and ran off with another lady in December. He is living with her but refuses to sign papers so she can divorce him. Any advice on what she needs to do next.

The next step is to file a petition for divorce and have him served. She can do this on her own. Forms are uually available for downloading from the court website. Hopefully, once he is served and facing the expense and hassle of a suit he will agree to settle the case and your friend can wrap it up as though it were an uncontested divorce.
