Is anyone familiar with SC law regarding extending child support when a child begins college? I'm the PCP and have a feeling I'm going to end up responsible for all college expenses (including housing, insurance, clothing, food, etc.)
Also, if child support does stop when the child turns 18, then does the father still have the right to claim the child as a tax deduction on his taxes?

Child support ends in SC when the child graduates from high school. Neither parent is responsible for paying college costs. If one pays, it is voluntary.

So if the child support stops, then the opportunity to claim the child on his taxes stops as well? Also, the child remaining at home is a 14 year old child with disabilities. Does child support stop for him at 18 years old as well?

It depends on severity for the 14 year old. If they qualify for SS at 18, that usually takes the place of CS. As for the tax deduction, it depends on what your decree says. If it is vague and you are unsatisfied with it, you may have to let a judge decide.

Federal an state tax laws apply for claiming a tax exemption for a dependent after cs ends.

When your child turns 18, if they want to go to college, they can get a job and earn the money themself or take out a student loan. If they are 'disabled', they can still get a job as a bagger at supermarket. There are many jobs available for retards. Unless they are so retarded they belong in a group home, but then the state takes care of them.
