The Duggars were given heartbreaking news on Thursday.
According to People, during a routine check-up where Jim Bob and Michelle were supposed to find out the sex of their 20th child, their doctor was unable to find the baby's heartbeat. Michelle was told that she had miscarried in her second trimester.

"After the appointment, we came back home and told the children," the 45-year-old mother of 19 told the mag. "We had just been talking about baby names last night and they were getting excited about naming a boy or a girl. It has been a real sad disappointment."
Jim Bob also released a statment confirming the tragic news to Access Hollywood , saying, "Earlier today at a routine doctor's appointment, Michelle and I received the sad news that we lost the baby. Michelle is resting comfortably at home with the support of the entire family. We are grateful for all the thoughts and prayers, but ask for privacy during this difficult time."

The Duggar matriarch said they will still name the baby after they find out of it was a boy or a girl and they plan to hold a funeral service.
"I feel like my heart broke telling my children," she continued. "They have all been so excited about this baby and looking forward to April coming around and having a new little one in our arms. That was the most difficult. The Lord is the giver of life and he can choose when that life is ready to go on and be with Him."
This is Michelle's second miscarriage. She previously lost a baby during her second pregnancy, when she was reportedly taking oral birth control. According to the mag, this incident caused the couple to let the number of children they have be "up to God."

In addition to their youngest daughter, Josie, who was born in December 2009, the couple is also parents to Joshua, 23 (who has two children, Mackynzie, 2, and Michael, 4 months, with wife Anna, 23), twins Jana and John-David, 21; Jill, 20; Jessa, 19; Jinger, 17; Joseph, 16; Josiah, 15; Joy-Anna, 14; twins Jedidiah and Jeremiah, 12; Jason, 11; James, 10; Justin, 8; Jackson, 7; Johanna, 6; Jennifer, 4; and Jordyn, 3.

Everything happens for a reason.. and this doesn't shock me in the remotely slightest bit. As I said when it was first announced, she's older, she had a big problem with the last pregnancy.. while she "can" still get pregnant, she SHOULDN'T. Hopefully they will learn a lesson from this, combined with the last child's birth, and STOP getting pregnant. Sorry that's harsh, but that's how I feel. I don't feel in the slightest bit sorry for them at all.

Seriously, when are they going to call it quits? Do they get a pay raise from TLC for every kid she cranks out on a yearly basis? I find this family kind of creepy and bizarre. Sorry, but I just do.

Not surprised, nor do I hold any sympathy for them. "God " tried to give her a warning with the last....kind of like the joke of the flood and the man on his roof.....boat comes by and he's told to go with them....he responds by saying, God will save me..... Later a helicopter drops a rope....he says God will save me....ends up drowning and asks God why he didn't save him....God responds by saying what more did you want, I sent you a boat and a helicopter....

I just can't imagine being pregnant almost every year for...24/25 years? That would suck big ones.

I'm concerned for her own health at this point, will she be healthy enough to see her other children grow? Isn't that part if being a parent? Isn't that the enjoyment of being a parent?
Interesting enough it says in the article that she stopped BC because she had a miscarriage. Now she had a miscarriage without BC- I wonder what she will do?

That is part of the enjoyment of being a parent. When it gets to the point where it's dangerous for her and a potential baby's health, I think it should stop. She needs to get her tubes tied or something. She owes it to her living children to remain as healthy as she can to see them grown.

How sad. Miscarriage and infant loss can be devastating and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. I hope they take this as a big hint from the man upstairs and quit while they're way, way ahead on childbearing.

Glad it's not just me who isn't feelin' the duggar love so to speak. I (admittedly) felt pretty harsh writing what I did, but it is what I feel. I just had REALLY strong feelings about this last pregnancy not being appropriate.. that's not the right term can't quite find what it is.. but like others said, I really really REALLY do hope they take this, in combination with their extreme preemie last birth, as a BIG sign to STOP!!!

I think the Duggars are kind, lovely people. But I think they are a little misguided with the whole "as many as god chooses to give us" business. I had hoped once they started having grandkids they would stop, so that their kids could now enjoy THEIR time to be "the one with a new baby." Then the micropreemie and I thought, well maybe now. Now this. I like the man on a roof analogy - fitting.
I also don't understand why if they believe god can overcome a woman's virginity and impregnate her, why if it is his will he cannot overcome the rhythm method? I get their objection to artificial BC (even if i don't agree 100%) but there is nothing wrong with the rhythm method.
