Can both parties hire lawyers from same law_firm?

After the custody trial, STBX switched to a "top" lawyer for the divorce trial scheduled for next July. I'd like to know whether I can hire another lawyer from the same law_firm, assuming that STBX has not talked to him previously?

A multi-lawyer law [censored] should run a conflicts check before taking on a client. Conflicts re not always obvious. No state that i know of allows lawyers in the same [censored] to represent opposite parties in a divorce.

Most likely, no.. Why? because the lawyers in the same law [censored] all work together and if you and your soon to be ex have lawyers in the same [censored], it would be classified as a conflict. It's not very smart to do so because the lawyers may swade one way or another. even though you have privacy laws to protect you from having your lawyer talk to his lawyer and so forth, its just not very smart to do so. its best to get a lawyer from a separate [censored].
