My brother did something similar. We found a place through a realtor in NY and we didn't have to pay any kinds of fees.
I would think these kids may have to look outside the surrounding areas and seriously consider in a place where it is more affordable to rent.
Where I was from in NY- even here, lots of apartments include some utilities.

"That is different than 2 kids looking for an apartment."
Now I guess that would depend on how busy these two "kids" are. I have met many "kids" who are very busy between jobs and school that I am sure a service that helps would be quite a welcome one.

here, the landlords are the ones that hire a property manager...the propertymanagers do all of the above but the landlords pay the costs of credit checks...and advertising etc. The landlord has final approval and decision making power. The PM's just handle all the grunt work. There is generally no one working on behalf of the tenants, but I can only speak for my area. You're making me think that we should be offering that kind of service here for a fee. hmmmm

--------------->> In NY, it depends. Go to CraigsList. You'll see a whole section of "fee" rentals. Yes, a renter CAN pay an agent fee for rental.. ABSOLUTELY! OR, the landlord MAY absorb the fee. It just depends. When I was renting out my house, had I signed with a realtor, **I** would have paid the fee. As a renter, I looked at places where I would have had to pay the fee which is always, as far as I know, 1 months' rent.
As for location.. just using my LI experience as an example. Unless you wanna live in bumfvck? There is NO CHEAP place to live. It doesn't exist. Even an apartment in the worst crack-ridden area? Is gonna cost you. And if you're a person making any sort of money? You're not going to live there b/c you're probably white and halfway decent looking and that's just not a place you go, never mind LIVE. And even with that? Like I used to live on the very edge of an area called Gordon heights.. NASTY NASTY NASTY place. I was paying nearly $1700 for a 2 bedroom apartment, NOTHING included. And driving 3 hours+ a day round trip to my job. I suppose I could have lived IN Gordon Heights, but I'd still be paying $1,200, $1,300 and I'd have to hope no one raped me. Or I got shot in a drive-by. Move further east? Great, but now you're talking upping your commute to any decent job by at least an hour round trip.
Sometimes it's just not "that" simple.

So you break her balls for NOT paying for the wedding, then complain when they DO offer to help with apartment? Grow up.

As a renter would you have paid a fee of one month's rent, plus deposit and first month's rent? See, as a renter (and we did that for our first 3 years of marriage) we never paid a fee to the realtor and we paid first month's rent AND deposit which was one month's rent. The deposit was given back unless it was absorbed by any repairs needed in the home. We always received our deposit back.

Yeah I get that in that area. Where I lived the only BAD areas (where crime was significant) were in the big cities. In all surrounding areas you could live VERY cheaply. Our first apartment a SMALL two bedroom with a stackable washer and dryer unit IN a good school district and the nice side of town- $425/month included heat, garbage and sewer. Second time was in the middle of town (probably borderline in what we call "nice") $450 for a 3 bedroom HUGE downstairs of a Victorian house that was partially remodeled.
My sister moved from the west coast AGAIN, met some guy from FB (again) and fell in love (again) and she moved in with him. He is renting a duplex in a good school district (outside) of a city (not NYC-- but a bigger city in NY) for $400/month. 2 small bedrooms and no washer and dryer. My brother lives in Upstate they rent a house for $525 and my other brother lives in a rented town house for $700/month. Just depends WHERE you live. But these are all NON crack ridden places with VERY low crime and above average to excellent school districts (rated 7 or above on greatschools.net).

They aren't offering to help. They are putting more roadblocks up for these kids.
If she didn't get married, she'd have a place to rent. Get married and she's on her own.

Yes, for "fee" apartment, you would pay first, security and potential last AND the fee. Yes.. Absolutely. Go on cl.. check out apartments, there's a whole pre-set search for it.
