Saturday, we got a notice in the mail from DH's health insurance company that they need 5 years worth of tax returns and a copy of our marriage certificate. Really??? We have been with this company since 2006 when DH took the job and haven't had to supply anything. I don't have a legal copy of our marriage cert..so I'm calling Vegas in a few to see if I can get a copy. Only gave us two weeks to get it all together. Any one else having to do this? We are with BC&BS.

Yes, our company did it too. It's a way to find people under the insurance that shouldn't legally be under the policy. I think I had to give my son's SS#. Cost cutting measure I believe.

We have BCBS also...and have not received anything like this...hope we don't...talk about a drag!

I do not have BCBS, but this reconciliation was done at the company level, not the insurance level, because our company pays a portion of our insurance rates. I guess it's a type of weeding out to cut costs. All three insurance companies were checked. This was done about a year ago and I remember my boss having to provide his marriage certificate. But I'm not sure about the tax info.

I could see marriage license, but taxes?
Last year my son's Union Carpenter Insurance came out with a letter that said if you are married and if your wife has a job and insurance through her work, that your wife needs to get insurance through her work.
S is not married...but totlly a cost cutting measure.
A good friend that works at Boeing, has a new Life Coach. The Life Coach keeps track of his weight loss, BP, and he was given a year to come into the health standard or they were going to raise his cost of what he has to pay. Crazy.

Finding the taxes was the easy part of course, we have those in our file cabinet..the marriage license is another story..I do have the one that the court house in Vegas sent us it has a seal and says it's certified..but I'm not so sure cause it also says I can send for a copy of the original. I called them awhile ago but go no one..had to leave my number..hope they call back..2 weeks isn't much time to get things in order and back to the company. We have been through the "if spouse can get insurance" thing before too. I was working for awhile and chose not to take their insurance. They didn't make me take my companies insurance, but charged DH and extra $26 per paycheck more to cover me. When I quit my job they cancelled the $26.

They don't care how much she makes, they want to see if she is working at a place that provides insurance. You answered your own question in your last reponse.

Or to prove that they're indeed still married and she qualifies to be insured under his policy? If I got the same request for info crafty received, I could produce the marriage certificate, but my taxes are filed head of household.
