ore tenus defendant wants to restore maiden name

Hello,

I am the defendant in an ore tenus divorce in VA. Since we agreed on everything, I didn't get a lawyer. I have already signed the proprety agreement and the waiver so won't have to go to court. My only problem is what steps do I need to take to get my maiden name back. I understand that the easiest way is to include that information in the divorce decree but how do I do that without a lawyer? [color:blue] [/color]

Just ask for it whenever you go before the judge for the final hearing. Usually it's the person's choice whether or not they want to change names, the other person doesn't have much say in the matter.

Submit an affidavit stating that you want your maiden name back (Be sure to spell out the whole name) with all the other paperework, and make sure the final decree (which is what you will be using to show the name change for your passport, driver's license, etc.) includes a line stating something like "Defendant shall have her maiden name of ------ restored to her.
