Starting a divorce timeframe

Does anyone know if there has to be a seperation or can you go right into filing for a divorce?

From what I have read about in AR if you don't have grounds for a divorce then you must be seperated for 18 months. However if you have grounds for divorce then you can file pretty much right away.
