I said that earlier, what about the parents who CHOOSE to raise their children that way. One day the school comes in and says HE!! no, you have to eat chicken nuggets.. Should they have the right to decide that also??

My local TV station had an interview with the Grandmother who made the child's lunch. Apparently it was on white bread and she is NOT happy about what has happened. She asked that she be "anonymous", but she was disgusted by them taking what she proposed was a healthy lunch.
Anyway the school official also spoke he said there was an issue with what had happened. The staff member was NOT suppose to take the child's entire lunch away, but only substitute the apple juice for milk. That was the one part they felt was not the healthiest alternative. That was the idea behind it in general. Substitute out what should be part of the child's lunch diet. They also made it sound like it wasn't supposed to be forced, but offered.

SO take away the APPLE JUICE and replace it with milk, because it wasn't "healthy"?!? Since when is APPLE JUICE not healthy?

All the reasons to stay on an organic diet......
---> If you can afford it; buying 'organic' is expensive...hell, buying 'healthy' overall is expensive.
---> After my little trip to the ER last month and overnight stay, I am having to make some changes to my diet and going 'healthy'...I'm either buying less or having to pay more. Anything label 'organic' in the produce section (fruits/vegetables) is $.40 to $.70 lb higher. Buying any canned product labeled "no salt added" like Diced Tomatoes with Green Chiles or Black Beans reminds me of the days of Regular/Unleaded gasoline where it cost MORE to NOT add something. As for 'whole wheat' or 'whole grain'...again...cost more to do less.

Since when is APPLE JUICE not healthy?
---> It's not that it isn't healthy, it just doesn't meet the requirements of a well-balanced meal. The below link is an example of a school menu before/after the Health, Hunger Free Kids Act 2010. Note that it contains 'dairy'.

NO DOUBT!!! My youngest daughter has been dx with ADHD, ODD, intermittent explosive (Sorry, but that one still makes me chuckle). She began meds and is doing great. From failing to missing the honor roll by a hair in 9 weeks. However, she's packing on the weight and I have to get her off the Risperdal as soon as I can. Therefore, I'm reading anything and everything I can find on how diet affects these disorders. You know how many foods have red dye in them? HOLY COW!!
So, our diet now is organic, fresh. Haha, my son said, "Mom, these raspberries don't look right". Anyway, to not have my foods dyed a beautiful shade of red, green, or whatever costs a lot of damned money. $181 for 1/2 grocery cart full yesterday.
Pay attention the next time you go shopping to the prices, even if you don't have any plans to eat fresh. The very first thing that jumped right out at me was when there was a display of Reese PB cups next to a bag of apples. The bag of candy was on sale for $2.99. The bag of apples was $4.99.
Now, let's play like I am poorly educated and on food stamps (NOTE, I didn't say ALL people of foods stamps are STUPID). I have $300 to feed my family for the month. I have to make it last. Why would I spend a $1 more on 100% Whole Wheat bread over the "enriched" white bread? Why would I buy apples instead of the Reese's? I WOULDN'T. I need their bellies full.
Hey...Michelle Obama. Ya want healthier kids? Make the right foods for them affordable. Just sayin'.

Sometimes, I really HATE being a tad bit OCD. I had to look up the guidelines for a 4yo. It says an active 4yo girl only needs 1400 calories, 5oz of grains, 1.5 cups of veg, 1.5 cups of fruits, 2.5 cups of dairy, 4 oz of protein foods daily.
She had grains (loose interpretation), fruit, dairy, and a lean protein. Even stretching my imagination, I can't call her potato chips a vegetable, but she is allowed 120 empty calories a day. Maybe those were her daily treat and she was having steamed broccoli for supper. At any rate, the only thing "missing" was the veggie and the state work didn't provide that by adding her processed chicken nuggets.

In our school cafeteria kids are MADE to take at least 3 items offered. But the cafeteria ALSO offers them snacks to buy. Probably 2 out of 3 kids on FREE LUNCH brings money to buy snacks. So they will throw out their GOVERNMENT-SUBSIDIZED lunch to eat 2 bags of chips, an ice cream bar, and a cookie.

When was apple juice ever considered healthy ?
Actual apple juice is a better choice than the apple juice drinks that are primarily high fructose corn syrup, but it's still just liquid carbs with little bang for your buck.
My kids have still drank plenty of it.
Glad I don't live in that school district. Or....glad workers in our local schools don't think they can do what they think is best. I have two teenage boys. After eating their school lunches, they'd tell a cafeteria worker they wre still STARVING and would wolf down another $47.55 of food every day. And I think the football coach, the weight lifting coach, and the rugby coach would all be right there trying to beef up ds 16

Therefore, I'm reading anything and everything I can find on how diet affects these disorders.
---> Make sure you check different sources to verify what you find out as there is so much contradictory information out there; along with a lot of preconceived notions.
---> That's one of the things that I am fighting...I had to get my 'gecko' on with my doctor to get him to listen to me...instead of assuming that I am overweight because I sit around on my ass eating DingDongs and Doritos and washing it down with a six-pack of soda! The look on his face...I don't think a patient has ever dared to tell him to 'shut up' or question his authority.
Hey...Michelle Obama. Ya want healthier kids? Make the right foods for them affordable. Just sayin'.
---> EXACTLY. Seedless Green Grapes on sale for $2.99/lb...10.5oz bags of Lay's Potato Chips on sale for $1.99. If I have 2 kids to feed and a limited income...I'm going to go with the Potato Chips. Ground Beef 85% Lean for $2.99lb, but I can get the 3lb 'roll' Ground Beef 80% Lean for $1.99. Chicken of the Sea Tuna packed in oil is $.89...packed in water, it's $1.29. Annie's Natural Mac & Cheese is only sale this week 10/$10.00; Kraft Mac & Cheese is also on sale 3/$1.00. Organic Pasta Sauce...$2.99; Ragu is $1.49. The list goes on......
---> Then there is 'convenience'...if you and your spouse work and don't get home until 6pm...which are you going to buy: 10oz Box Breaded Shrimp 2/$7.00 that you can open and toss in the oven with some fries or maybe a bagged salad or 55ct Bag Medium Shrimp $6.99 that you have to chop onions, celery, green peppers and saute with some tomato sauce and serve over rice?
