I am helping to set up a library in a juvenile correctional facility/prison venue for youth ages 12-21. This is going to be somewhat Christian based, but the movies and books do not have to be about God- but having a loving message. I am also trying to get a listening station started. So my plan is to bring in Christian CDs. Ultimately I am donating Kindles and CD devices to get this library off the ground.
I would like help from those of you who are Christians and know some great books, movies and CDs. Again the movies and books do not all have to be Christian based, as part of the library will consist of the Christian faith based books, the Bible and devotionals. I would like some of each, problem is THEY HAVE TO BE G RATED!!! So any ideas on what a group of 12-21 male youths might be interested in? I wish we could push the rating to PG, BUT I understand and respect their guidelines.
So any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

CD's I'd go for anything by Toby Mac, Casting Crowns, That's What I Call Music has several compilation albums. I like Francesca Battistelli (sp) and Matt Maher.
Movies...well G rated movies are few, but they do exist. I would look for The Rookie and maybe Herbie Fully Loaded, some old classics like Mary Poppins or Willy Wonka. I don't have much experience in the Christian genre aside from Veggie Tales which may not appeal to that age.
Books, Christianbook.com has a teen book section, in fact, I get a lot of things from there, gifts and such, you should check it out for sure. You could get some great ideas there.

I am really loving David Crowder Band and Sidewalk Prophets currently because they have a rock vibe to them, but the lyrics are incredibly powerful! SWP's "You Love Me Anyway" is just a testimony in itself.
My kids love the movie "Fireproof" and there is a movie called "The Grace Card" but both PG. Thanks for the help!
ETA: Even the movie "UP" is rated PG!

Fireproof is a goodie! Also, Courageous, Facing the Giants (not sure what the ratings are, but they are awesome Christian movies, made by the same ppl that made Fireproof). Chronicles of Narnia, the books and the movies (not sure of the movie ratings).
I think Gs will be hard to find unless you go with all Disney movies. I found this website for you: [censored]://boxofficemojo.com/alltime/domestic/mpaa.htm?page=G&p=.htm. It has the Princess Diaries, Sound of Music, etc.

Wow good luck finding g movies that aren't for little kids... If you google 'movies rated g' several sites with good lists come up:

Love Chris Tomlin CD's - Christian music that is upbeat with a spiritual message and it would be great for the ages you have mentioned.
He does a great rendition of Amazing Grace and much more I love his live edition that has several songs that the at the concert he stops and lets the crowd sing the chorus. He has several CD's out but my favorite is the live one and normally I do not like live CD's.
I wish he would have a concert in my state as I would be first in line for the tickets =) My 10 year old loves his music.
You could also get the "4 Wooden Crosses" CD that is country singers - it is another one of my favorites - I do not know the rating - it first came out through Time Life CD's but you can get it at Walmart now.
I will take some time and go through my stuff and get some more ideas for you - I have a lot to do this week so I will pm them to you when I get it all together if that is ok?
I absolutely love this idea and maybe you could let me know how it works out as I would love to do that with the Juvi here and could use your expertise and feedback.

"I would like help from those of you who are Christians and know some great books, movies and CDs."
I have some great suggestions, but since I am not a Christian, you probably wouldn't like them. BTW, make sure you beat the prisoners over the head with the bible, folks like that make great atheists when you folks are done with them.

Anything CS. Lewis....... He wrote some awesome fiction......
Your comment on "for those of you that are Christian's" is a little absurd...implies those that aren't shouldn't comment of are clueless...I know a "Christian" last down the road that's illiterate....maybe I should ask her....

They do not HAVE to use the somewhat Christian based library so there probably won't be any beating over the head with bibles going on and if someone wants to be an atheist or a christian they will find a way - a few books, movies, cd's certainly won't convert anyone in either direction.
Why is it when someone shares the word of God you always imply that it is being forced upon the individual?
Free will baby, free will =)
I think Cassie probably thought asking Christians was a good way to go because as a Christian an individual may know of several items - I am sure if your items are along the lines she is looking you could contribute. If you have some great suggestions for Christian literature. movies, and music you should share them.
