Actually in hindsight, if they had cleared it up about the bottled water from the get go, made it available at stations etc, the kids might have been better off in school. The boil alert at home with no supervision may have caused more of a ripple than some parents were prepared for. That is taking into account the entire spectrum of grades. I trust the school, but only so far, and the quality of information in this case would make me pay more attention, and even have some suggestions....

Yes, I would have an issue with it. I think anything health and safety related the parents should be notified.
Just went through this myself this week. DD's school was on lockdown. One of the schools hit with the "suspicious white powder" mailings that went around this week in New England and Texas mostly. Lockdown for a day, school closed for the next day at the urging of the FBI.
I was never notified. I found out when I showed up at aftercare and the head lady came running out the minute she saw my car pull in. Knew there's no way I could have known or I would have called saying she wasn't coming b/c I would have been at school. And the school district/FBI forbid afterschools from contacting parents, ONLY notification (other than word of mouth obviously) had to come from the automated system.. which.. didn't notify me. At all.
I was calm when I talked to the school yesterday. Hopefully the issue has been resolved. But no, I wasn't pleased to not be informed about what had happened... not at all. I absolutely would have been at the school to pick her up (I didn't get her til almost 6:30, she didn't get on a bus til 5:30, mostly b/c of parents picking up but I live so close to the school I could have went home and walked to school and got her and walked home).

I don't think i would be upset that they didn't cancel school. It seems like everything was ok (no cholera epidemic due to lack of running water) so i wouldn't second guess that. I would however question the wisdom of holding athletic practice without forcing bottled water onto the kids who you know had nothing to drink all day. But on the other hand depending on the age of the kid - I would expect them to demand they be given water. I want my kids to think their way out of that paper bag.

Would you be upset if you found out that the your child's school lost all water at about 8:30 in the the morning and had no running water until after lunch (to flush the toilets) and no water fountains all day.
---> No. Unless the kids are sweating heavily due to heat or activity, it isn't going to hurt them to NOT to not have water for a few hours. And the toilets were only out for an hour...NOT a reason to cancel school.
Bottled water was available but the kids had to go to the office to ask for it. I complained about that.
---> Seriously?!? Have you also complained that the kids have to go the Nurse's office instead of having first aid stations set up all over the place? And maybe they should have food stations instead of a cafeteria. Wouldn't want those poor, poor children to have to walk a few extra feet.
Why did the coach allow the kids to practice afterschool without water available to them? According to YS15, if you were not at practice today you can't compete tomorrow.
---> Do you know for a fact that there was no water? Do you know for a fact that the kids actually worked out as opposed to just discussing strategy?

One hour without water? Much ado about nothing.

That is not what was implied with the recording. Water went out in the morning and was not back on until after lunch. Things STILL don't make sense but I've voiced my concerns to the admin and how I feel that their communication to the parents was horrible and needs a vast improvement.
A neighboring school district closed the following day because water was out overnight but there was a boil alert on the water so to be safe all of the schools in that district were cancelled. Our kids lost water during the day, had a boil alert whcih continued until the following day but school was in session. So I don't feel that I am wrong in my opinion since another district did what I expected our district to do.
