some things never change.
      #785813 - 05/31/12 11:26 AM

Hours upon hours at the hospital with my grandpa, so I thought I would pop in and see how everyone and the board is doing. I see things haven't changed much.

I am glad to see some updates for some of you, and will respond in posts.

My life is pretty normal for me - chaotic. Son was diagnosed with diabetes this year, but finally stable. Daughter finished her first year of high school and excelled at it. Ex and I have really worked well this year through Son's medical issues. It really puts things in perspective when your kid is sick.

Hope everyone else is well, also.

Glad to hear things went well for your DD. My SD struggled this year with honors courses and I'm thinking we may pull her out next year. A's have always come easy, now she has to study and lacks the proper skills. We are putting her in a class on how to study this summer, just a short few days. When I was in high school I remember studying how to study.

Anyway, I am sorry to hear about your DS, and glad to hear things are stabling out. I hope he remains on a positive course.

Boy.. you are a brave soul to post!! >winks<.....
Sorry to hear about son... i hope he is doing well.
hope grandfather is okay.

I saw your post to me about about daughter- she did really well in it, but as I told EM in a PM.... the program she was in was fantastic!

There are many out there, but what set this program apart was that she had to "phsyically" be in class for and hour and half each day/each class... so if she took three classes, she was "in" class for 4 and half hours.... it was logged by activity.. so she could not just "sign" on and leave the room..... not only that, she MET with the teacher in a virtual class environment and hour and half per week.. so like Spanish was on Monday, English on Wed and Math on Thursday.. the teacher actually "taught" She had to do another online course (Early childhood dev) this semester through her B&M school and it was HORRIBLE... they had to work on their own, etc.....

If daughter got behind an hour with the other prgram I knew it immediately... if the assignment was due at midnight on a Wed, then by Thursday at 2 am I would know if it was done or not.... again... LOVED the program.

Daughter did great this year. Her only problem was the same problem she has had the last three years, she was bored in math, as she was in the normal math class. So, in order to get back on the pre-AP/Honors track in math, she's going to take two math classes next year...Algebra II and Geometry. Then she'll be back on the AP track for her Junior and Senior year. But, it also means she'll have seven classes next year instead of six. I think she'll be fine, though, as she already has a 4.0, something like a 4.5 weighted.

Son, on the other hand, struggled a lot this year. Mostly because of the amount of absences he had due to his disease. It's the biggest reason I'm contemplating online school for him. Although, oddly, his one class he excelled in was his only pre-AP class. But, it was also a fantastic teacher who caught his attention. He's sooo like his father! LOL

Brave or dumb. :~P

My son is actually doing well. Eight months post-diagnosis, he's still in his "honeymoon phase", so no insulin yet. But, he's had to miss so much school, which is why I'm contemplating online school.

We have a program here that is actually through the school system, but I don't have much information on it. I was planning to really look into this summer so I can have the info I need to talk to Ex about it.

Thanks for the information about your daughter's program. it gives me some questions to ask that I hadn't thought of before. :)

The k12 online program through the school is horrible in our state... it's theone she did this semester....

Looking at your state, you don't have a lot of options...

Provost doesn't have one in your area.. which is a great online program.....

I had to go to the Capital of my state to actually "meet" with her school.... we really had a great experience with it and I think it's because of the school we picked... like I said... the one this semester SUCKED.... and it was through the HS.... whereas last year, it was a charter online school.

Hours upon hours, sounds pretty serious. I hope your grandpa is alright.

I am sorry to hear about your son. I hate diabetes. I really hate to see it in kids. I am glad to hear you have it stabilized.

Prayers being sent for grandpa as well as the rest of you. DH got diagnosed with diabetes this year too. Lost 50 pounds so quick it was scary before he got it stabilized. Now he can control it pretty well with diet and a small dose of meds. I'm glad your son has stabilized, not fun at all.

Nice to "see" you.
