I hope your Grandpa gets better and soon!!! That's a tough position to be in. I will be sending you all prayers of strength and healing.
Glad your son's diabetes have been stabilized. Type 1 diabetes is a difficult journey. My brother was diagnosed at age 19- it's been a tough road for him, even tougher I'm sure for your son who is much younger.
My DD finished her first year of HS too. She took some honors classes, did the SATs again and should end up with over a 4.0 (because the Honors classes bump you up). Our girls are very similar! I am sure she is still kicking butt in Soccer too :)
Good to hear from you!

My SD prefers social over academic. It's hard because I am not like that but her parents are. They don't value education in the same way as me. It's hard when you've got birth parents sort of working against you. They are not willing to expect more from her and I'm not willing to fight that battle.

Something we have in common ssmom - my stepchildrens bio parents and bio family do not value education like I and my family do and I stopped fighting the battle when SS dropped out of highschool - I did get SD into a program for cosmetology when she was 16 so she would have something (she finished it and got licensed) but she didn't use it she actually has an awesome job that she advanced in by way of working there and doing a good job and my ss manages to stay employed so if that is what they want and the parents are fine with it there isn't much for me to say.
SD is going to start to take some classes at the local CC where she lives and I hope she can manage school, work, home, two year old, seven year old, husband who is gone half the time etc... but most of all I hope her BM doesn't talk her out of it. My SD is very ambitious and manages to have many irons in the fire and do well so I believe she will be fine as long as bm doesn't get her way.

He fell this week, and broke his hip bad enough to need a replacement. Week in the hospital, 6+ in a rehab facility. With his dementia, we don't leave him alone, and since its just me and my grandmother, I have the 7pm- 730am shift...that way I can work from 8-5.

:) our girls are similar. Her competitive soccer has been great, they took first in their league this year. High school soccer is another story. They coaches were horrible, both as coaches and people. I pulled daughter out halfway through the season, and am transferring her to another school so she can play next year.
This year, Son played football! He liked it, but has decided to try tae kwon do this next year. I think that will be a great sport for him.

Ugh....that's a tough battle.
We've had it in my house between my 'husband' and myself. Ds had solid, but not spectacular SAT scores. He did much better on his PSAT's. I wanted him to actually study for it and retake them. I used to be an SAT tutor. I wanted to work with him. He wasn't very enthusiastic, but my husband's "They don't count for that much, it won't matter to colleges, Mom's just an SAT snob trying to relive her glory days" crap didn't help. Neither did his, "State schools are just as good as private, no one has more opportunities or makes more money if they went to a certain school" tirades. Yeah, excuse me for wanted to encourage the kid to work to his full potential.

Sorry to hear that YAH. This 'sandwich' generation bit s*cks ! I hope that you are getting some sleep.
And I'm glad your ex is stepping up some.
I think football would be imparticularly tough with diabetes. My ds#2 plays (just finishing sophomore year). Between the intense work outs and pressure to be bigger/gain weight for many positions, that would be hard with controling bs's.

I'm getting a bit of sleep. He seems to wake up in the middle of the night for about an hour and a half, and needs constant answers about where we are and where my grandmother is and where his dead mother is and why he's there, and am I sure they fixed his hip, and how did he fall and where are we again?
My uncle did finally stay with him last night, so I got to sleep in my bed, and am doing laundry today. All I can say is thank God for a soccer player I coached who is house sitting for me while out of college this summer.
Football wasn't bad. I don't do the pressure to gain weight/be bigger thing...even for healthy kids. Thankfully, he has a great coach who is trained with diabetics. The biggest thing for us with football was how to get him all the calories he needed from intense workouts, and stay diabetes friendly. It's hard to do portion control when you're working out for 4 hours a day. Oh, and throw in the puberty. UGH...his voice changed in all this and everything. Gotta love it.

I am so sorry to hear that. Broken hips can be rough in the best of circumstances.
Remember, you have to take care of yourself too. I know it is hard and am myself many times in that position. You just have to let people know you might need some help or a break/breather.
