He destroyed the lives of police officers who were chasing his drunk ass a.d caused a city wide riot, in which many homes and businesses burned, costing the city millions. Then sued and cost them 10 million more. Rest in peace hell, he was a poster child for the overly entitled minority who threw the race card far to often.

No, he did not. The police officers who beat him destroyed their own lives. Just like Rodney King is responsible for his actions, so are the police officers involved. They went way too far. And should have been convicted.

He's a poster child alright....for police brutality. He didn't tape himself being beaten. He didn't cause the riots. Black, white, or green, nobody deserves to be beaten like he was for no reason. If he was white would he have been beaten? Would the officers have been convicted the first time around?

"He destroyed the lives of police officers who were chasing his drunk ass"
Why was he never charged with DUI? 13 months and a handfull of days later the riots happened. Why....RACISM. Thankfully, later, the cops were served a platter of justice. Why the trial was moved to "White America" nobody can understand. In the end 10 WHITE people and 2 BLACK people found the cops guilty.

This is a general reply to all of the responses. I really connot believe that there are grown people who still defend him 20 years later.
There were THREE men in the car (all African American). Two got out of the car as ordered and were detained. King at first refused, then when got out started actng crazy. He waved at the helicopter, and reached around behind him to grab his ass. His BAC five hours after the incident was just below the legal limit. This means that when he was driving his BAC was 0.19. One of the responding officers pulled a gun and told him to get on the ground. He complied. The officer holstered her weapon and approached him to cuff him, as did the rest of the officers. He THREW two of the officers off of him and bunched a third in the chest.
The lead officer told them to stand clear, and they did. He was TASERER, he fell to the ground on his knees, and got back up, lunged at an officer, and was hit. If you WATCH the tape, there is NEVER a time when King is hit while actually LAYING on the ground. He is CONSTANTLY trying to get up, and he is being hit to cause him to lay down.
BTW, the police involved were found NOT GUILTY of excessive force. There were tried on violating his civil rights (which I found DISGUSTING, since it was legally determined that they had used the proper amount of force), and only two of them were found guilty.

He's a poster child alright.. of how NOT to live your life.
King was arrested for DUI in 1992, but no charges were filed.
In 1993 King entered an alcohol rehabilitation program after crashing his car into a block wall in downtown Los Angeles. He had a blood alcohol level at two times the legal limit.
King was arrested for DUI in May 1995 in Pennsylvania. He was tried on the charges, but was acquitted.
King was arrested in July 1995 by Alhambra police, who alleged King struck his wife with a car, knocking her to the ground. He was sentenced to 90 days in jail after being convicted of hit and run.
In 1999 King was sentenced to 90 days in the San Bernardino County Jail and placed on probation for four years for a domestic altercation involving a daughter and her mother. Court records show King was required to attend a batterer's treatment program.
In 2001 King was ordered to attend a year-long drug treatment program after being arrested for indecent exposure and being under the influence in Claremont, California.
In 2003 King was arrested by Rialto police on a charge of suspicion of hitting his girlfriend in the face. Charges were not filed.
In 2003, King was seen by police weaving through traffic in an SUV at more than 100 MPH before he ran into a fence and into a San Bernardino home. King pleaded not guilty to being under the influence of PCP. King was sentenced to a six-month drug rehab program, and served a 120-day jail sentence.
King was arrested in 2005 for allegedly threatening to kill his daughter and ex-girlfriend. No charges were filed.
In 2007, King told police officials he was hit with pellets from a shotgun.

What happened in the criminal trial was wrong. They should have been convicted. The defense did a real good job in desensitizing the jury to the video of the cops BEATING him to the point that it just didn't matter.
I, for one, am very GLAD that justice did prevail and they got convicted of something. Even if it wasn't what they should have been convicted for.
It's not a question of defending Rodney King. It's a question of defending basic human decency. And there was nothing humane about what those cops did.
