Arden, M5, thanks so much for your concern about us! :)
The fires were to the north, west and south of us, but we are fine. Yes, they were devestating, but - as usual, the media made it sound like the entire state was on fire, which was not the case. So glad most of them are almost fully contained.
Update on us. My youngest (d17...soon to be d18) graduated from high school and will be leaving for college in Florida next month (same place my D20 is attending.) H and I will be empty-nesters - sniff, sniff.
SD22 graduated from college in May...AND got her first "grown up" job. She moved back in with her mother to save money to get a new car and her own place. Her new job is about 1 hr commute from her mom's and only 20 minutes from us so she has been staying with us quite a bit on weekdays lately. It's been nice. :)
My last child support check will be August 1st. Ex-H and I reached an agreement that he will stop paying me CS 1 year early in exchange for covering all of D17's college expenses (up to the amount that CS would have been.) It should save him about $4000 doing it that way and I'm fine with it. We still split D20's college expenses 50/50 and will begin splitting D17's college expenses 50/50 next year.
We went to St. John (again) in March and had a blast. We just can't get enough of it. Next year is a cruise for all 5 of us. The girls nagged us into it...offering up "no Christmas gifts" in exchange for a spring break cruise. Sounded good to me...so we'll have a VERY minimal Christmas and take them on a cruise in early March.
I lost 30 lbs this year through sheer determination - diet/exercise. I now weigh what I weighed the day I graduated high school! Granted the weight is in different places now, but still feels soooo good to have those excess pounds off...hopefully once and for all!
That's about it for us. Life is good...no complaints. Hope this finds everyone happy and healthy! :)

I'm so glad you updated us! I can't believe your youngest is going to college next month! Wow...time sure does fly! What is she going to major in? Is your oldest still wanting to be an MD?
Congrats on the weight loss and I'm so glad that the fires have not affected you and your family. Are you still planning to move back home to FL now that your girls will be there?

Hey M5,
Nice to hear from you. Thanks for the PM. Yes, D20 is majoring in Micro Molecular Biology with intent on being an MD - surgeon of some kind. She's been shadowing an ortheopedic surgeon and is starting to lean in that direction. She is spending the summer in Fla taking MCAT prep classes.
My youngest wants to major in ...f...f...F...F..Fi...can't really bring myself to say it. Film. Analytical "me" is hoping she'll change her mind and go for something that will enable her to support herself one day...but for now, she is going to follow her dreams and I'm supporting her in that (but still secretly hoping she'll switch to Accounting.)
No immediate plans to move back to Florida. It's where we ultimately want to end up, but our jobs are going really well right now and aren't feeling an urgent need to get back there just yet. I'm thinking in 5 to 9 years we'll head back.
What's new with you and your family?

GAL, I am glad you checked in and all is well.
Wow, the girls are really growing up. Time does march on. From the sounds of it all 3 girls are thriving, which isn't surprising.
It is good to see you are still enjoying your travels. I do miss reading about them. I do however understand why you don't want to post here much any longer.
Thanks again for checking in. Those fires were some scary stuff.

Not much new for us right now. SS21 (still can't believe he is 21!) will be a Junior this year. He ended his sophomore year with a 4.0 and he has had a part time job at Sears for almost a year too. Still wanting to be an English professor. Already looking at schools to get his doctorate.
SS19 is...well...no nice way to put it...a bum. He had a great opportunity...a soccer scholarship with college a few hours away and he blew it, big time. He stopped going to classes and practices and was eventually arrested for underage drinking. He went to court and wound up with 16 hours of community service and a record that is supposed to be expunged. This all happened back in the winter and so far, he is still not working anywhere or going to school...just bumming around and sponging off his mom. We are hoping he gets his head out of his rear soon.
SD is 17 now and is a senior! She has done very well in school so far. Not sure what her GPA is, but she was second honors last semester.
My kids are good, for the most part (a few issues with my son, but we are working thru them). My youngest just turned 11. And is developing...which I do not like! lol
That's about it. We don't have very many issues with the BM anymore...we've not received a bill from her since the summer of 2009. I still feel like she may try to pull something with that when CS ends in less than a year, but I hope I'm wrong. I am due in court with my ex at the end of August for CS...of course, since he was served, he suddenly started paying again, off and on. We'll see how that goes.
I think it's awesome your kids are doing so well! And who knows...your youngest daughter may be the next Steven Spielberg ;) One can hope, right? It's good hearing from you!

I wasn't worried since I knew where you lived and 'cides, you would have browbeaten the fire to death before it dared reached your home. ;)
Amazing how times flies...my 'baby' boy is 21 and engaged to a wonderful young lady. But don't be calling me Grandma any time soon, they don't plan on having children for several more years.
Congratulations on the weight loss!
As for me...I left Jack three weeks ago and relocated a 1,000+ miles. Things haven't turned out exactly as planned, through no fault of my own or my friends...I'm not stressing it. Sadly, my cat took off the night of the 4th and hasn't returned, but I've been praying and looking.

Cannot believe you will be an empty nester. Think it's wonderful your youngest decided on FL- now your girls will be in the same place and it was probably the cheapest as far as education costs.
Sounds like oldest daughter is doing fantastic! Good for her.
Now SD completed her degree in Communications/Journalism, correct? What is her job title or in what field did she end up taking her first real job?
Congrats on the 30 lb weight loss! What an accomplishment. I noticed since I am (dare I say in my later 30's) that it is MUCH harder to stay in shape. I have been running 1.5-3 miles daily and walking 5 plus miles a day. That has helped to keep me in shape and I love it :)
St. John--- oh how I would love to visit there! I need to put that on my empty nester list!
