...can be licensed to practice law
news.y a h o o.com/courts-mull-whether-illegal-immigrants-licensed-practice-law-020223474.html?_esi=1
It should be noted that I do NOT have an issue with Mexicans as a people; like any other group, you have your good, your not so good and your bad. I do NOT have an issue with immigration...my father's family immigrated to this country a hundred years before it was the United States and I'm a fourth-generation American on my mother's side. BUT, I do have a serious issue with ILLEGAL immigration.
The article being posted is somewhat misleading. Sergio Garcia was NOT raised in the United States; he was almost 2 when his parents brought him here, they lived here for six years, then returned to Mexico for eleven years, then returned to the United States. At that point, his father, who was a U.S. permanent resident, filed for a petition for his son to be granted an immigrant visa and it was approved, though never received.
Now the kid is a man...a 35-year old man, who has recently graduated law school and his asking the California Supreme Court and the U.S. Justice Department for the 'right' to practice law.
Also included in the article is a 26-year old man who's parents illegally brought him to the U.S. when he was 9. He is also seeking to enter the legal profession.
I sympathized with young people who were illegally brought to this country when they were small children and I can agree to a certain extent that they shouldn't be penalized for the parent's criminal actions. But at what point do we hold them responsible for their actions?
It's one thing to be an emerging adult, unsure of your legal status and/or how to correct it, but there has to come a point when you can no longer plead ignorance. In BOTH of these cases, we have more than standing adults (one is 26, the other is 35), we also have law-school graduates. I don't think the 35-year old should be allow to practice law period..17 years is more than enough time to change your legal status. If the 26-year-old can show active correspondence going back to at least when he started college, he can have a temporary license to practice, but then only have 4 years in which to change his legal status or be barred from practicing.

Ironic, the court is mulling over the law, about enforcing it, so someone can be a lawyer to practice it.

Irony is that that they are even considering it. Seriously...you're thinking about allowing someone who is breaking the law to practice law?

Someone has to say it . . . .I have a better idea. Let's keep the illegal immigrants and deport the lawyers.

lol Maury
In the great debate over "opportunity for wealth vs being the butt of a few bad lawyer jokes" vs "a noble profession that pays crap".......I'm guessing you've done alright for yourself
