"If your faith is SO weak that the inability to SING about it 24/7 will cause its demise, that sounds like a personal issue. "

Actually, I don't think these songs are a matter of faith, so that point is moot.

"You have no right to have your prayers in public school."
What do you base this statement on?

Yes forcing NON belief. Not having the choice to sing a song (or not sing a song) that most kids wouldn't even give a crap about the references to lords or gods in is forcing non-belief. Saying MY WAY IS THE ONLY WAY AND YOU BETTER ACCEPT THAT AND TAKE GOD OUT OF EVERYTHING OR ELSE I'M GOING TO SUE YOU. Forcing your non-belief on the entire district. IMO there are better resolutions out there to help this sort of a situation.

If your child doesn't believe and the words to the song bother the child (or the parent of the child) another option should be OK.

I accepted that you think removing all instances of god or lord are overkill, do you think suing the school is overkill? Do you prefer that as the appropriate action to solve a problem or do you try other avenues before you resort to legal action?

"Encountering beliefs counter to your own is a part of life - and the education process."

Not when a TEACHER is TEACHING it.

"Using music arranged for a chorus - a group whose origin lies IN THE CHURCH"

Wow, THAT is a good one. First we hear that Atheists can't be kind and moral, because of the belief that Christians invented KINDNESS. Then we hear that Christmas is a Christian holiday, despite the FACT that it has been celebrated in many form for THOUSANDS of years. Now, LMAO, you are claiming Christians invented/founded SINGING.

What an AWESOME group you guys are, LOL.

"Surely you don't think that any book which refers to god, or the characters going to church or having religious belief should be banned?"

Of course not, I have said that. But on the same note (no pun intended) even you have to agree that the Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep is NOT a "classic" musical piece, its a PRAYER.

Not a leap, YOU said that not allowing you to sing RELIGIOUS songs in school forces my NON belief on you. Thus, if you DON'T sing religious songs, you will begin to NOT believe, right? That is YOUR words, not mine.

Now, if NOT singing religious song will NOT affect your beleifs, then my NON belief is NOT being forced on you.

As long as I get to decide what is classic, I am all for it. In books, and music, and history.

For what it's worth, I disagree with that. I believe faith can enhance those qualities, but Christianity is not a prerequisite to kindness or morals. Then again, I think there has been a discussion here before that there was no possible reason to be against homosexuality other than Biblical, and I disagree with that, too, for the same reasons. People can and do have morals outside of Christianity and the Bible.

Actually NO it's NOT what I said nor implied. I said that suing a school to remove all songs that mention god or lord is forcing a nonbelief on others. To jump from that to saying that not singing the songs somehow reduces belief is exactly the problem with your argument...it's a leap, a fallacy, a poor argument.

Yes you're forcing your nonbelief on a group of people by alleging that even uttering the words to a song is so offending you have to have every instance of the word stricken from any song that is sung in a school.

If you don't see how having a choice to sing a song is a better resolution, then we part ways here on this discussion. We won't change the others view, and I don't want to keep rehashing the same thing between us.

You don't want to strike every instance, but you want that particular song out. OK, to me it's not a big deal. Not a hill for me.

Why not? Who says Christians invented kindness? Kindness comes from people, not religion.

That's quite a persecution complex.
