Will I pay alimony after 1 year of marriage???
      #790614 - 08/31/12 01:13 PM

Will I be forced to pay alimony after only one year of marriage? If so, how much? And which state would be best for me as a military member: North Carolina, Michigan, or California?
Information: active duty but plan on separating next year (no pension) - no kids - wife won't work - been married 1 year - mutually agree on divorce - renting home - 95% of property was purchased by me - I have two vehicles in my name but willing to give her one for free.

Any advice/insight would be great! thanks.

It could happen. Not likely and if you did it would likely be for a short period of time.

If you don't plan on even seperating until next year, you could be doing yourself a disservice, letting more time accrue that you have been fully supporting her.

I'd start the process sooner rather than later.

Terry,
Every second you continue supporting this gold digging freeloader adds money to the figure of how much you will have to pay her DURING AND AFTER the divorce. That is how the law works for all men.

That is also why soooo many long term married men are slaves. Every day they stayed married, the $$ figure grew and grew, and now they are trapped. And they say America doesn't have debtor's prison. Not so....
