I am currently 3 months pregnant and stationed at Fort Campbell, KY with my husband. We're going to separate (not a legal one), not divorce but I will be moving back to my hometown in Michigan. I guess you could say this separation is off the record, between us. We don't want to commit to divorce yet but we need time apart, badly. And I have nowhere else to go but home. We're not telling housing so he can stay in our house on post but I need Tricare to be switched so I can keep seeing an OB/GYN in my hometown. What's the best way to go about doing this? Would it be smarter to try for a legal separation or just have a divorce file pending and wait for it to go through? (we can't file and process until the baby is born). He also says he still wants to take care of us (we also have a 4 year old) so I can still have access to our bank and finances (I don't work right now). Should I get that in writing? He's very fickle and I can see him cutting me off later in the future. But for right now things are civil. How should I go about this whole thing???

You need to go to the TRICARE Service center and tell them where you are going, and they will take care of it. What you are doing with housing may or may not be right, depends on the local policies. You may have access to the accounts now, and you may not later, at that point, if you do not, then you can make calls, to get support started. If you have no order of support in place, he will only be required to give you an amount equal to the BAH. So smart is in the eye of the beholder.

Reading all these military divorce postings is really sickening. Basically any female who can't hold down a steady job bones any service member, and hey presto, instant income. It is really hard to think of women as equal human beings in this context.
