Does she have an income? It will be based on income disparity.

Yours is a long-term marriage - which matters a lot in how long spousal support will last - do not be surprised at lifetime support for a 24 year marriage.

Good Luck

You need to relocate to somewhere like Texas. Once you establish residency (few months) pull the trigger.

California will cut your balls off, put them in a jar, and hand her the key for life. You will be writing her checks from your deathbed.

While the imagery is quite disgusting, Hanz take on it is pretty accurate. Without knowing income specifics and if she has any interest in supporting herself, there's no way to tell you what she'll get. Talk to some lawyers in your area. They can give you a realistic idea of what you're looking at.

Lifetime is a given, IMO. How much of the assets, debt, retirement and investments is the question.

Dread,
You are in financial slavery and your wife is the master. Your options are:
1. She has a convenient fatal "accident".
2. You empty all the accounts, drop completely off the grid, live in a campground in northeastern Montana, never work a real job again.
3. Leave a note for the kids describing your hatred of slavery, then suicide.

Unfortunately..(my expirence; 35k a year, 2 kids, one now 20 yr old, married 21yr, ex chooses not to work for past 8 yrs- has degree in ultrasound tech, me sole provider) now divorced has to pay 423.00 every 2 weeks for alimony while he hangs out at the bar. This country punishes the responsible and caters to the irresponsible. ITS SICKENING

LOL, interestingly enough, there was NO talk of doing away with alimony when only MEN paid it. And when MEN complained about it, they were called selfish.

Yet as women entered the workforce, and some because the primary earners, and then divorces happened and THEY got hit with alimony payments, all of a sudden alimony is unfair.

So, as a GUY, speaking to a WOMAN, you will forgive me if I see the NOW (no pun intended) activism on women's part against alimony as somewhat self serving and less altruistic as some would make it seem, LOL.
