Personal and shared possessions
      #795973 - 12/09/12 10:43 PM

I am beside myself. I don't know what to do. My husband of ten years and I have split up and at the time he was leaving, I tried to talk with him about our belongings and reach agreements but he refused me. He has adult children who hate me and never wanted us married now he is listening to them and staying with them. We had to let our house go due to hurricane damage we were at a loss and moved into North Texas to be near his kids and closer to my sons in Oklahoma. My mistake, once my husband reunited with his kids, our marriage became a farce. About 3 days later my husband set me up to have dinner with him to discuss our situation. When I arrived back home, the apartment had been ransacked and my step kids had taken out furniture and different personal effects including an Iraqi dollar bill my soldier son had given to me alone as a gift. The police refused to help me stating that since my husband had given them a key and access there was nothing they could do. I moved out asap into OK with my son and my husband and I have had some belongings in storage; mostly my stuff. But I wasn't working initially and so my husband had been paying rent on storage. I finally found work and tried to contact my husband but he would not answer any of my calls. During this time, I received a petition for divorce from him delivered by the local police department. I have called and asked for Legal Aid of Texas and they said their offices are in overload and cannot help me. Any other attorneys I have called want a minimum of $1500. down, I don't have that kind of money only making minimum wages and now am no longer working for that job! Now about 2 weeks ago, my husband finally called me and said he wanted to close the storage and for me to go get what I wanted or tell him to throw it out or give it away. At that time, I was still working and so told him I couldn't go right now (my vehicle was needing repairs) but that I want to take over payments. So, he agreed and said he only wanted some tools out of there. I spoke with the storage manager and she took my payment and said she would send me papers to sign. A couple of days ago, I was able to get out to have the paperwork sent off and when I called the storage facility, the manager told me that she had gone to check the storage room and found it open with only a printer sitting on the floor! My husband and his kids have done it again! And this time there were my dad's weight bench, weights, bowling balls, electric chain saw, my mother's skates in a skate box (circa 1950s) and she is deceased, several winter coats of mine, my wedding gown, assorted teaching materials i use in my classroom when I'm teaching, Christmas ornaments that were passed down to me from my mother's side of the family, my son's baby clothes and pictures, and much much more!! They have no use for these items and I know they are only going to throw them out to spite me or sell them on E bay! Those items are my legacy! I feel dead inside without my mother's skates and dad's bowling balls and other stuff~ How can I get help?????
