Hi,
I am using the online child support calculator. I am in ma.
His income is about 167% of mine. Seems the total combined yearly income exceeds $250,000.
I am the one who pays for the health insurance. On the calculator, there is a line for deducting the health insurance I paid. However, the amount he has to pay me is the same, with or without this health insurance I paid. I feel he is getting free health insurance paid by me.
How do I deal with this? Should I tell my attorney that the calculator does not work since our combined total income exceeds $250,000?
Thanks for any help!

In most states there is a cap on how much child support you pay. For example, if you made $48,000 and the guideline was 25%, then CS is $12K, or $1K per month. But, if you make $48M, then CS would be $1 million a month using the same formula. The court recognizes it doesn't cost that much to raise a child. With that said, the probable reason your CS doesn't change with or without the insurance added on is you are already receiving the maximum allowed by law.

We are doing 50-50.
In MA, the way child support is calculated is to run the formula twice. The first time is me being receptor, and the second time is him being the receptor. The child support is the difference. Since he makes 67% more than I do, there is some child support for me but not much.
I have agreed to get 25% less child support calculated based on guideline. Now knowing I also have to pay family health insurance, I feel I am giving up too much.
Anyway, I will mention this to my attorney and see what her suggestion is.
