I'm curious, do a lot of members use their retirement as a weapon later on? Like reducing it if possible so the former spouse's award is reduced too or fighting over it years later?
My uncle's ex took him to court 15 years after their divorce just to fight over a reduction of like $150 a month. I don't even understand that. Is that just bitter or is there a good reason?
I'm just wondering if it's worth it in my case... esp since retired enlisted pay kinda sucks anyway. I mean yea mine took everything from me because he's a freak of nature and I lost a lot monetarily because of it but is it really worth it to 'make him pay'?
I dunno, I'd really like some opinions either way on this. My thinking for awhile was... I was entitled to some kind of monetary award but now it's been long enough that it's like... just move on. If I don't ask for anything and just finalize the divorce then he won't be able to try to stop it (he's been doing that) and he won't be able to come back years from now and try to take me to court for something.
Like maybe having my freedom will be reward enough. Does that make sense?

It makes sense. Some people find it worthwhile to get what they want now - and not [censored] on what they may get (or lose) later. Like "keep your retirement and pay off all the CC debt - Cya!"
