I was wondering if anybody might be able to help me, or point me in the right direction. I've been married for 8 years, however I have not seen my husband since 2009. Both my daughter and I live in America (Illinois) and are both US citizens. My husband lives in Serbia and does not have US citizenship. Our marriage certificate is filed in Serbia. My daughter visits her father for a few weeks a year. For many reasons, I want to file for divorce. My husband is trying to blackmail me by saying he will try taking my daughter from me if I do not process the papers to allow him US citizenship. This man has not given me any child support whatsoever and has verbally threatened me on several occasions and I do NOT want to submit his papers. What options do I have? Can he take my daughter away from me as he stated Serbian law favors the father to have sole custody? I'm on a very limited income and do not have the money to pay for an attorney. Help!
