Since December, my ex has submitted over $2000 in medical bills to me for my child. This is above child support of course.
My question, as a newbie, is the decree says I have to pay her within 20 days. Ok. But what if in ONE MONTH (March) my HALF when added to my CS is 50% of my take-home pay?
I can't pay that in 20 days, and live, pay my own food/rent. She "PAID" the bills on her credit card. My Dad brain says "well, anyone can pay off a credit card over time..."
I am considering offering her a "payment plan" over 3 months. I have never been late with CS, always pay the medical.
If she declines, I still CANT AFFORD to pay her the lump sum =(
What would you do? Thanks!

Talk to her and make the payment plan offer. If you have a credit card yourself, you could also offer to charge your share with the medical provider(s) directly and they could reimburse her what she has paid when they receive your payment. I don't know your ex or your relationship with her, but most reasonable people would be open to that discussion. Let her know you acknowledge the debt and intend to pay it, but you're asking her to work with you. If she doesn't agree, she could take you to court for contempt, based on the 20 days language in your order. If that happens, follow your payment plan regardless, and use a check, money order, whatever to prove payment. Also consider sending the payment registered mail, so you can prove your attempt to pay in case she doesn't cash the checks/money orders out of spite. Hopefully, she will be understanding and work with you, if she is not, do the best you can and follow through with your plan.
