I say "pop" and car mul
I've noticed people around here are going back to Her b, not erb.
How do you use a word that begins with an "h" after the word "an"? Example, An historic event just took place (or a historic) or a herb of great value is the citronella (or an herb).

It is definitely soda here. I have heard it called pop, but the funniest one to me was coke. "Would you like a coke ? Sure, ok, what kind, and then they would go down the list of pepsi products....
it was always erb growing up, but do hear both now.

Herb (with the H) is what you put in food, Erb is what you put in a JOINT, LOL.

Same here.

I wouldn't use "an" with historic or herb, at least in written English... it does flow a lot better than "a" though, not sure if that's "istoric" and "erb" those came to be? I've never heard "an history" though... does that kill my written versus spoken theory? I believe "a" is proper for both though... how would you treat it in a paper?

Crawfish aside, what's happened to this place. No step posts and damn few posts at all anywhere?

"how would you treat it in a paper?"
I let it go either way. I tell students the old rule is increasingly out of use, but I do like to hear "an historic" (stress on tor') and "a history" (syllable his' stressed).
