Very new to this site, just fell upon it while doing some research. I was married for 6 years and am currently going through a divorce. My ex does not currently work and hasn't worked for a few year. He was on workers comp due to an injury. He went to a vocational school and is still not working. He completed his schooling about 8 months ago and I left him 6 months ago. Because I am the only one making money, I am paying spousal support. Even if he gets a job I will make substantially more than him. I have an attorney as does he, and we have had our first court date with two more scheduled. I have paid for a vocational evaluation on him because he is not working nor do I think he is looking. Has anyone experienced having to pay spousal support to a man? If so two questions: 1. How did you emotionally deal with that? 2. Were you able to get it reduced?
Also, we have no children. I am in the home because he cannot affort the mortgage but we will be selling it. It makes me crazy every month when I have to write him a huge check and he sits on his butt.

While I find ANY spousal support wrong, I do find it interesting that you feel it is somehow more difficult because he is male. Do you not believe in equality?

I agree, the emotional stress shouldn't be any more or less because the spousal support is going to a man. I don't doubt that it sucks making out that check.
Was he imputed at least at minimum wage even though he isn't working ? If so, I'd focus more on trying to make sure it is short term (in light of your relatively short marriage) rather than decreasing the amount.
