Has anyone been awarded custody of an animal through thier divorce. I had a Boxer that we had together, well he is not being taken care of and being investigated by the HS. My neighbors have turned him in since Feb and now finally something is being done.

Hi F25,
Have you asked your lawyer (do you have one) about the law concerning pets in your state? Also, was the Humane Society in your city - or the one that is investigating - able to answer the question? You could always let them know that if the dog is taken in for protection, that you would like to be the first one called. Unfortunately, what I've heard about animal rights is not as just as we might desire or expect. It is a good idea to be proactive; I'm sure you are feeling that way.
In the meantime, another resource may be the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). They have a website - perhaps that will direct you to an answer. If not, their number is 202-452-1100.
Good luck with your dog. Lisa

Lisa and Jaiye: Thanks for the response.
Lisa, I have asked my lawyer and he said he would call his attorney and find out what is going on. The HS that is invistagating is our citys. They would not tell me anything other than talk to my attorney or his. Becasue thier are RO's I am unable to talk to him. They said becuase I moved out even though he is also registered to me, they will not tell me anything b/c he is claiming ownership of him. They wont even call me if something happens to him or they take him. Im not sure what to do other than his poor dog did not deserve to be neglected for any reason, he was such a good boy.
Thanks for the help and number, I will definitly call them.

Good Luck... I hope you can get the dog living with you. I kept the dog(s) in my divorce because x new he couldn't keep her at his apt (St Bernard) and it probably would've cramped his style anyways.
If you have neighbors you are still friendly with I would ask them to keep an eye out and let you know if the dog disappears. Let the vet know whats going on. If the dog is gone I'd be at the pound first thing. You may also want to find out if there are rescue orgs for that breed in your area -- if HS takes him they may turn him over to his breeds org.
