Divorcing a missing spouse
      #11968 - 04/08/05 06:01 PM

I was married to a man for 3 months, then I found out he married me under a false name and SSN. I havent seen him in over 6 years. The last known address I have is over 5 years old. How do I divorce this man? Can I get an annulment instead? Can I do it myself? I don't have a lot of money, so affording a detective is impossible. Can anyone advise me?

You MAY not even be married, my dear. What state are you in?

Married in CO, I'm currently in MN. Last I heard he was in OR, but the people he conned kicked him out. The issue is becoming important because I am in a long term relationship.

You can have you marriage annulled.

How do I go about proving that he used a false name? I know both names, and SSNs, but I dont have a copy of his birth cert. I dont think we even had them when we married. Should I just contact a lawyer?

I thought my situation was weird .. I hope you get the divorce you need. But it sounds like that the divorce isnt a legal one to begin with but still consult a lawyer to find out what you need to do if anything. Good luck!
