My husband is in Iraq, and has had his mother file for divorce on his behalf. I need to know if the D. has to be finalized before I am able to file for bankruptcy...also I have a Power of Attorney question....I have papers saying that I am his P.O.A. dated march 15 of this year (we did this when he was home on leave.) I need to know if there is anything I can do to sopt the pettition for divorce and have a legal separation enforced so that we at least have the opportunity to try to work things out. Oh, I almost forgot to tell you, we live in Iowa.
Any help would be much appreciated.

HI. This is my first post to these bulletin boards. I am also in Iowa. I will be filing bankrupt with my divorce. I still need to contact my attorney, but last time i was separated, my attorney told me that you can file bankrupt along with divorce. Is the same attorney taking care of the divorce and bankrupt? Which part of iowa are you in. I'm in Des Moines.

I am in Ottumwa, but I cannot afford a lawyer, so I'd be pretty much doing this on my own.

right now I'm looking for a job (hopefully I'll have some good news next week), and I get cut a check once a month for 350 for bills and such,.once thoes are paid, I have about 15 to 20 left and that's what I'm using...just hope nothing major happens anytime soon.

why is filing for divorce while over sea, don't go in to a divorce alone, I know alot about the military laws with divorces, yes you can file for bankrupt in the middle of a divorce, if you can't afford a attorney then find a legal services in your area to help you, don't do this alone, do you all have children????????

mike, my stbx is fileing because he has found someone else while over there. We don't have any living children, we have already disscussed our son's ashes, and they are staying with me. Where I live the only way that legal aide will help me is if I claim that he was physically abusive to me...and I refuse to lie about him like that. He is a cheat and a liar, but he has never laid a hand on me. I just don't want to lose my home.

if the parent is their power of attorney they can...otherwise I don't think so tho...
