When I found out my ex husband is making more $ now at this job which he started last May, I filed paperwork w/ the state for a support modification for our 2 kids. Anyway, they asked for all my financial info, which I submitted immediately...they only give you 5 days. So today I called the state (CT) to check the status and to find out when a court date is so i can get on w/ my life...it turns out he never sent in his paperwork as he was requested. No surprise there, he did this during our divorce, which took over almost a year when my lawyer said it would take 4-6 mos. He stalled then too cuz he didn't wanna submit paperwork, the bottom line is HE wants to control how much his kids get, he donesn't want the state to, cuz he knows they'll take what the guideline says, which is more than he's been paying .So today the state said if they don't receive his paperwork by next week, (so much for the 5 days as it said in their letter) they will go thru the dept. of Labor...My question is, what exactly will the Dept. of Labor show? Shouldn't the state just send a letter to someone "at the top" of his place of employment saying they have to submit to the state how much he makes and has made since last spring when he started...wouldn't that make more sense then the Dept. of Labor? What would the D of L show that his job wouldn't? And my 2nd question, doesn't the state follow thru regularly for his earnings, for example my kids are on a state program for before-school care.(so I can get to work on time, theyre' too young to stay alone). The state pays the director a portion of the monthly child care fee, and I pay the rest. EVERY SIX MONTHS I go through re-determination for this program, I have to submit my last few paychecks and fill out a whole bunch of paperwork to make sure i still qualify for the program. Doesn't the state do this for support paying parents, check up on thier earnings?? He's had the same amt. taken out of his check by the state for 4 yrs, and he's had jobs before this one, (he gets fired a lot)and I'm sure he's been making more $ all along...but I could never prove how much he made then of course, cuz he never let me know where he worked, so they couldn't track him. Once i was FINALLY afford caller ID (another added fee on my bill! but worth it!), I let the state know the name and # of the place where he works. That's the only reason I know where he works, so I was able to call the state immediately. He would never tell me where he worked. Why can't they keep track of his earnings, like they do for my kids'daycare?

that the Department of Labor is an independent, reliable source of information that would not be subject to a 'friend' in the personnel or finance department who might be persuaded to give false information in order to keep the support order low.
