if you had a choice would you go to Thiland (Bangkok, Phukett and Phi Phi Island), Peru (Cusco and Machu Picchu) or Caracas and Margarita Island.

I have a good friend who is married to a lady from Phuket Island. They have been married for over 20 years and go back there at least once a year for a month or two. I have over 1000 pictures on my computer that he has taken there. PhiPhi Island and Phuket Island are incredibly beautiful--it looks like the Caribbean. Bangkok looks fascinating also. He loves it there and they recently built a retirement home on Phuket. If you want to PM me an e-mail address I would be happy to e-mail you some photos of both places. Of course I am sure you have lots of travel brochures to look at. But be assured it is just as beautiful as the brochures make it look!

Is your friend obsessed with wine? My friend says you can tell how important you are to your host by the dollar value of the wine that is served to you.
The other weird thing is the way they treat parents. Since they just built the retirement home there and showed me pictures of it I saw this with my own eyes--they have two separate front doors on the front of the house. That way when parents get old and have to come live with them the parents have their own front door to enter which gives them the illusion of still having their own home--it is a sign of respect. Isn't that a neat custom? I don't know if the whole country does it or just the particular region where his wife grew up.

Everyone (well not everyone) who is stationed in the far east vacations there. My neighbor was in Korea for two years and just raves about that place. She talks about the massages on the beaches, with fruit drinks all the time.
Long flight though, and just make sure security is okay. I think Thailand just had an attack last week.

Phucket and PhiPhi. I've never been, but some family members have been...I hear they are Eden.
Leonardo DiCaprio's movie "The Beach" was filmed there.

I don't think he's ever mentioned it, but I will ask him. I did send him a case of Lipton Onion Soup Mix...something that they can't get.
