Whll most judges go ahead and give you a divorce before asset division? I want to get the divorce now and then hassle over the assets. Is that possible?

Yes, it is called a bifurcated divorce.

Thank you. I am going to make sure and ask my attorney to do that. Will most judges go ahead and do this?

That I'm not sure of.. I assume if you have good enough reasons for wanting it, then they would grant it... what those reasons would have to be, you would have to ask your lawyer.
Thank you. I am going to make sure and ask my attorney to do that. Will most judges go ahead and do this?
It is up to the judge not the attorney. Why on earth wait ten years to finalize your divore? ANYTHING can be argued in court, so who knows what a judge would decide regarding assets. Has your ex been giving you money over the past ten years?

---> Many of the people who choose Legal Separation over Divorce do so for religious reasons, some for personal reasons, some because they are in no hurry to remarry, etc.

---> No it's not. Some people NEVER get an actual "divorce". Think about it...what REAL reason IS there to get a "divorce" UNLESS you intend to remarry. A legal separation can determine custody, parenting time, child support, spousal support and distribution of assets/liabilities. And anything accumulated AFTER the final date of separation...is sole and separate.

I divorced to rid myself of my ex husband. It had nothing to dio with remarriage. In fact, I think remarriage is last thing on divorcing couples' minds.

I was legally married for 10 years before my divorce was granted/final after I filled. Had I wanted to get married I am sure I could have sped it up, I just never really thought about it.
