permanent maintenence

Let me start by stating I am a 52 year old woman who was a stay at home mom and never worked outside the home. After 33 years of marriage my husband out of the blue left me for another woman and is now living with her. He's paying the bills but refuses to give me any money for food or gas. He told me to get a job. My 79 year old mother lives with me also and has for the past ten years. What are my chances for permanent maintenence? Its been over a month now and he still hasn't paid a cent. What do ya think? Pissed off in Illinois

Why dont you file for a divorce and request alimony..

I think you have a good chance of getting permanent alimony..

If you haven't filed for divorce, do so immediately. Until divorce is filed, he can take all of your marital assets and you could never see them again. You can also get temp. alimony set once you file, so he won't have a choice to "give you a dime" or not.

Given the information, I see no reason for him to give you money for food or gas. Think about it...if your Mom is living with you, he is ALSO paying her "bills" and so the money she gets can go towards food and gas.

The fact is...while you do qualify for permanant maintanence, he will NOT have to support you 100%...in fact, he could end up paying you less than what he is paying right now.
