statute of limitations for alimony
      #355395 - 02/02/08 10:00 AM

I live in Florida and have been divorced for 4 years. At the time of the divorce I did not go after any alimony only child support. MY x makes 35 k a year and after child support there would be nothing left for him. I need to know if I can try to get alimony after my child support stops. We were married for 16 years.

...you could use the time when you are recieving child support to BETTER yourself and stop svcking your ex's money tit, and survive on your own.

Why give a "senior" discount, they have had plenty of time to raise the money...

Is this a new scam to continue getting "child support"?

You need to get a job.

Whoa guys the bitterness is evident.
I do have a great job and in fact I am looking for alimony to help me pay off the bills from my marriage to a drug addict/gambler that sucked not only the life from me but all the money.
I could have tried for alimony but I took the high road and didn't because I felt sorry for him.
All i wanted was an answer to a question and not all the accusations.
Now I know why you guys are divorced.
Any comments now???????

Yes. What has made you stop feeling sorry for him. Why is alimony right now, and not then, did you take on his bills as well as yours ? Did he pays his CS on time or is he in arrears. Has he gotten help for his drug addiction and his gambling addiction, was he a good parent, and what were you paying th ebillsoff with before, and does the loss of CS mean you will be paying them off, but at a slower rate?

Getting alimony will allow me to pay off the bills at a slower rate. His wages were garnished and he has not dealt with his issues yet.

Just to get a better idea, are you talking about someone who would not pay and you had to garnish or are you talking about it was the easy way to do it instead of writing the check once a month. It seems like you would not be entitled to go back, since you have a good job and are self supporting, but if he is a stand up guy, who knows, maybe he would agree to help with your bills since his pay won't be garnished, and they were both your bills at one time. maybe I am seeing this wrong, but if getting alimony will allow you to pay off your bills slower, would you not rather pay them off faster and not get alimony??? That part seems not so clear to me.

The child support, which would be more than alimony helped me pay off bills. The reduced alimony would still help me
And no, he is not a man of his word which is why his wages were garnished
