[color:green] [/color] So I have never been through a divorce and never thought I would be...but I guess thats cliche...anyway, how am I supposed to pay for $3,000 in legal fees? My credit score is low and my bank won't help me out, I have no one to co-sign for a loan and my family is not exactly being supportive, are there any military benefits I don't know of or are there any places that are more willing to give a loan to someone?

In the Army, it depends on the post. Fort Benning used to represent soldiers, but they stopped once the divorce rate went through the roof a couple years ago.

There is no Army or military lawyer that will represent you in a civil case, the best they can do is advise you and recommend you find a lawyer. Military lawyers can only represent he interests of the Government. If you are a memeber of the military, and charged by the military, then you will be represented. JAG is there to protect the interests of the military, and that includes making sure soldiers have adequate representation when charged by the government, other than that, they can draw up ceertain legal documents, review documents and advise. Dependiing on the service, you should contact the agency that helps out in emergency situations, I don't think paying for a divorce is one of them, but you can always ask. For the Army, talk to ACS, I think there is the relief society for the Navy, and Miranda will have some good info for the AF. You may not get the help, but hey, its worth a try.

My husband is Active Army (I used to be)and in Iraq, I am nowhere near an active post (North Dakota). I would just like to know if there is any type of special financial assistance for a divorce...

No, I do not believe there is assitance.
if you cannot afford attornies then an alternate route is to do it yourselves which is just a matter of filling out and notorizing paperwork from the courthouse and a judge signs off on it. my divorce in FL cost about $127 or 129 from start to finish by doing it myself, 'course that was some years ago and filing fees may have increased a bit.
