THIS POST IS PREFACED WITH: NO BASHING PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!
Not seeing any point in beating Gr8Dad about the head for decisions he made 17 years ago, when in reality it's the mother's fault for not letting the father know, nor for evidently providing enough information TO find the father.
Sooooo.. maybe we can do collective good and maybe think of some "outside the box" search suggestions?
With a name that common, standard search engines, and even PAID search engines are going to be problematic. Just too many like-named people (I did a google search with the name, location and year and evidently some famous lawyer has at least that middle/last name).
Soooo, my "outside the box" thoughts are:
Reunion.com? Some straightforward and "sneaky" thoughts. 3 registrations. One for you, searching for daughter. One for daughter, searching for dad, one for your FIRST WIFE, searching for dad.
Craig's List. Missed Connections. Yeah, I'm one of those dopey people who reads Craig's List. Every once in a while there's a really GOOD post. Anyway, at least here on the LI page there's been numerous "looking for my child" postings in Missed Connections.
I'd try the upstate CL page AND, I looked up Corning and it's actually just a blip over the PA line. Might try putting postings on some of the PA pages as well.
This article was kinda interesting: http://www.freeprf.com/birth_parents.html
And it suggests Ancestry.com which you can do a 14 day trial on and I believe it gives you access to public records. I know I used it once to find an obituary and a death record and sure enough it was in there. I just cancelled it within the 14 day period.
That's all I can come up with at the moment. Maybe someone else will have better ideas than me. Think of it as a virtual brainstorming session.
NO BASHING PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This post is, TRULY, SOLELY intended for the purpose of maybe giving Gr8Dad some ideas or leads maybe he hasn't thought of yet.

I already responded to him about this. I am sure "we" can all help. Tomorrow, I will put some effort into it. I think AnneB, if she reads this can help.

Why not a pleading video placed on youtube.com. It's cheesey but guess what...Youtube gets a lot of traffic, as does myspace.
Unfortunately I do not know the details (name dob pob etc).

...and since, for my college class next session, I HAD to have a webcam, I went out and bought one a few days ago (AWESOME camera, 1.3 Megapixels, 30 fps, facial tracking, the whole nine yards). I will give that a try.

Then send the link to Foxnews.com's U report and news stations in localities where you think the child may be located.

I've tried to help Gr8Dad before--- I have TWO SIL's that grew up in Corning. Spent their WHOLE lives there. I could ask them anything, or their parents...but it just depends on how many people he wants knowing that someone is poking around...

...that, but that doesn't mean anyting, LOL, I am a card carrying member of the CRAFT association (Can't Remember A F!@#ing Thing).
While I would prefer that I be the one to exlain things to the guy, at this point, I would be happy for ANY info.
The only thing I would ask is that if they DID contact him, MAINLY assure him that I PROMISE (and would sign something legal if needed) that I seek NOTHING more than some kind of relationship between them. NO child support, NOTHING more than the fact that she and he have a RIGHT to know each other.
The only other thing is that I would ask that the first meeting be here in Texas, as my main concern is my daughters comfort zone, and this is her home. After that, I would agree to her going to NY to visit, meet her grandparents, etc.
Also, I would ask, at my expense, that a DNA test be done, as my ex is a KNOWN liar.

I still have it in my PM box it was from 4/07-- I did some searching and that was it. At the time you said that you wanted to keep it between you and him if you could find him, wanted to keep it kind of quiet.
Like I said I have TWO sister in laws that have GROWN up and have lived their WHOLE lives in Corning. Actually my brother and sister in law LIVE there NOW. So if you want to PM any info, although I think I have the old info, I can talk to them and see what they know.
