Divorce with Consolidated Student Loan Question

When my ex-wife and I were married we consolidated our student loans. She had about 45K in loans, and I had about 5K in loans. When we divorced we agreed that she would be responsible for continuing to repay the consolidated loans and I compensated her for my portion of the total.

Even with this agreement in place, legally my name is still on the loan with hers. I'm wondering if there is any way (a refinance, a consolidation with her new, individual loans) to have my name removed from the loan. I am planning on purchasing a home in the spring and would like to have this liability removed from my credit report.

Has anyone faced a similar situation?

There is no way to do it without having her refionance the debt. You would still be onbligated if she does not pay.

when my wife and i were married in Arizona she had about $40,000 in student loans. Since then she has accumulated another 30,000. What amount am I liable for in divorce
