Inheritance

My mom just passed away and left me a large sum of money(200k) and her house in her will. My question is I plan on divorcing my abusive husband and know he will try and get half. There are no children involved and we were married just 2 years. How can I protect my inheritance??

Sorry to hear about your mother. The loss of a parent is something one can never be prepared for. Now then here is my advice. Do NOT co-mingle the money or put it in the bank under joint names. Do not pay for expenses from your mother's house with marital funds. Now with that said, since you inherited that much money why don't you use a portion of it to get to a divorce attorney and file for a divorce if that's what you want. Interview numerous lawyers to find one you like and feel has your best interests at heart. Start copying important papers such as life insurance, bank accounts, retirement monies and place them in a safe place that he cannot get to and destroy.
